A lot of TV viewers will be humming the updated theme to "Hawaii Five-0" beginning Sept. 20, when CBS' shiny "reimagined" version of the 1960s cop drama debuts at 9 p.m. It's leading a wave of new series that could create a couch potato's paradise this fall.

In the new "Five-0," Alex O'Loughlin plays former Navy SEAL Steve McGarrett, who is hired by the governor of Hawaii to create an elite task force to rid her island of international criminals. He recruits Danny "Danno" Williams, former cop Chin Ho Kelly and his cop-in-training niece, Kono Kalakaua.

O'Loughlin has high hopes for his third CBS series.

"I think [viewers] are going to be surprised at how thoroughly they enjoy the show on every level," the Aussie told me during a phone chat from Hawaii last week. "I really do believe this show delivers character, crime and comedy in perfect balance." - Curt Wagner, ChicagoNow.com
